Offices are inherently professional, serious, and in many cases, boring. Be it a multinational business or a startup just growing right out of a suburb in Pune. They get to choose how their office should look and feel. Should the walls be white and blank? Or should small frames with some motivational quotes decorate them? Or perhaps some beautiful wall art can be part of the office landscape.
As we’ve already discussed, infusing art in the workplace is a great way to make it engaging and shoo away the blandness and boredom. Today, let’s look at a tech business in Pune that gained an edge by integrating beautiful wall art into their office.
Chapter 1: The Seeker of Office Art - Bora and Bora Technologies India LLP
Bora and Bora Technologies India LLP is the technological arm of Pune’s renowned Bora business group. The latter has a strong presence in different sectors such as real estate, food, and finance. With Bora Tech, they strive to recreate and establish their foothold in the technology business. As of today, they make consumer electronics such as power banks, earphones, and charging cables. And they breathe magic into these consumer products at their Swargate office in Pune.
Now comes the tricky part. It’s rightly said that you need the right environment and the right ingredients to create magic. The team at Bora Tech has the right ingredients in the form of reliable and robust R&D and technology. The missing piece of the puzzle, however, was the setting and the environment. While the culture of their office was warm and welcoming, something was definitely amiss.
One fine day, their CEO Mr. Prashant Bora visited our office to discuss the packaging of his products. And on his way in, he was met by the different pieces of wall art and office art that adorn our walls. When the conversation around the packaging concluded, he asked us, “Folks, can we create something spectacular for the walls of Bora Tech’s office?”
Chapter 2: Injecting Bora Tech’s DNA into the story of Technological Evolution
We went around the office space of Bora Tech and realized that their pain point was similar to that of many other offices. A closed-off space where people have their designated spaces to work, but nothing external to derive inspiration from. Empty walls that reflect nothing when one looks up to them. And outside, a simple, plainly coloured and uninspiring corridor leading up to the office’s door.
A classic example of how many offices are. A canvas waiting for the right wall art to make it come alive.
We divided the project into two phases. The first phase covered the corridor wall outside while the second one would encompass the walls inside the office.
We began with the consideration that an employee’s experience of their every day office visit begins the moment they step into the corridor. Therefore, we took up the corridor first. For that, we analyzed Bora Tech’s DNA to understand the underlying principle behind the products they create.
Their products are essentially tools that augment and improve communication experience.
Be it their charging cables that help deliver power efficiently to the devices.
Or their power banks that keep the devices charged and going tirelessly.
Or their earphones that provide a rich listening and speech experience to the users.
And their tech solutions are a tribute to the long way human communication has come owing to the boon of technology. There, the wall mural created for them carries imagery depicting the old times when there was one phone for an entire neighbourhood. The times when people had to actually wait for their turn to use the phone. And then, there’s today when each member of the family has a personal phone. The transition shown through the wall mural is poignant and thought-provoking.
The wall mural also tells the story of how Bora Tech’s devices are an integral part of the daily lives of many. These devices transcend the geographical and socio-economic boundaries and are used by both rural and urban consumers. At the very crux, these are true consumer products that belong to anyone and everyone who has a problem these devices can solve.
Also, the wall mural represents the evolution of technologies that resulted in new marvelous devices such as power banks. Devices that don’t just deliver uninterrupted power for our devices, but also help light up the way with integrated lights. Earphones that don’t just play songs but also help us communicate with the connected device and further to others.
And in case you were wondering, we didn’t just stop at the corridor walls. With the second phase, we brought our love for wall murals to the reception lobby, canteen, and the washroom area as well. This helped us create a 360-degree experience where design is an integral part of the entire office.
Chapter 3: How Did the Bora Tech Office Art Help?
As is the case with all forms and pieces of art, the wall mural for Bora Tech started to show a positive impact on the employees early on. As remarked by one of their team members Ms. Shilpa Ambilkar, “the painting is the first thing we see when we come to the office every day. And it’s remarkably effective in reminding us of the positive impact we create through our products and technologies. It’s a great feeling to be greeted by the fruit of your labour every day.”
And the artwork doesn’t just benefit the employees. It also works wonders on clients, customers, and vendors who visit the office. It helps them gather a sense of work Bora Tech is doing and appreciate it. Also, it always makes for a warmer welcome than a solid wall.
